Greetings Newbies!

Well done. It may seem odd to have a basic guide to the Durham network (although for those from elsewhere this might be of use) on the World Wide Web, but as we've just had Netscape put on the Novell system as opposed to it just being on workstations in the past, Freshers do at least stand a chance of getting here to have a look at these guides. Hence the congratulations in the first sentence. If you think I'm being patronising, well, sorry. These guides, and this page, is targeted at the beginner. So, without further ado, on with the links. Note that if you have problems beyond the scope of these guides, you should contact the ITS advice service.

Guide 0: Basics This is only here for completion's sake; it will probably not be relevant to you, unless you're printing the guides out for a total beginner.
Guide 1: E-Mail Just what it says; for `outsiders', this concerns pine.
Guide 2: Gopher Not a page devoted to a furry little animal, but to a text only source of information, a cousin to the WWW.
Guide 3: Newsgroups and Netiquette This will probably be of interest even to those just passing through...
Guide 4: Some basic UNIX commands Self explanatory...
Guide 5: Novell Windows and the like... (Although why you'd want to use Windows...)
Guide 6: Jargon Busting eg RTFM = Read the f***** manual!
Guide 7: World Wide Web Again, a bit pointless because you're already using the damn thing, but still...
Guide 8: In case of emergency... Another one of some general use, perhaps, although some of it is Durham specific.
